TANGERANG: Dozens of protesters locked two entrance gates to Tangerang Prosecutor's Office in Tangerang municipality on Wednesday to commemorate Anti-Corruption Day.

The protesters, from a law school and NGOs in the municipality, demanded that the office prosecute ongoing corruption cases.

"We want to know how many corruption cases the office successfully prosecutes in a year," the rally's coordinator Saiful said, as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.

The action caught several prosecutors and staff members in the office while police officers and civilians at the office had their case procedures delayed.

Tangerang Police deputy chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Maruli CC Simanjuntak said his officers patrolled near the office on the day and the protest did not turn violent.

"We aren't really worried about anti-corruption protests today, as we have placed officers at all important locations," Maruli said.

He reported that some 500 protesters had gone in trucks and buses to join the big rally in Jakarta to commemorate the day. - JP
