LANDSLIDES DAMAGE NINE HOUSES IN BOGOR CITY

Jakarta Forum - Bogor, W Java, Nine houses in three suburbs of Bogor city were seriously damaged by landslides on Friday but there were no fatalities in the natural disaster.

The landslides occurred after torrential rain and strong wind showered the South, West and East Bogor suburbs for more than an hour, a West Bogor sub-district government official said.

"One of the houses was completely destroyed," Abdul Muid said.

In West Bogor suburb, the landslide hit Purba Sari village. Two houses got minor damages while the other one was destroyed, he said.

"There are no fatalities but this natural disaster has brought material losses to some people," Muid said.

The landslides might be caused by the soil`s unability to absorb waters as a result of erosion due to densely-populated areas, he said.
