PLN TO CALL TENDER FOR 10,000 MW POWER PLANT PROJECTS

Jakarta Forum - Jakarta, Feb 8 (ANTARA) - State-owned power utility firm (PLN) will begin calling a tender for the country`s second 10,000 Megawatt power project next month, a PLN official said.

PLN`s director for planning and technology affairs Nasri Sebayang said here on Monday that for the first stage of the second 10,000 MW power crash program the tender would be called for small-scale coal-fired power plants (PLTU) outside Java.

"The PLTU projects outside Java are those that would be built by PLN and by independent power producers," he said.

In the following stage the tender would be called for PLTU projects in Java and geothermal power projects (PLTP) in a number of regions outside Java, he said.

Nasri said that actually a number of projects had been put on tender such as PLTP Sarulla in North Sumatra and the hydro-power plants (PLTA) Upper Cisokan in West Java.

"The Cisokan project has been started with the land clearance phase," he said.

PLN will then call for an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) tender for the PLTA Cisokan early in 2011, he said.

He said that PLN would also repeat putting on tender of other 10,000 MW project, namely gas-thermal power plants (PLTGU) Muara Tawar Add-On 2,3 and 4 in Bekasi, West Java, which were designed with a capacity of 1x150 MW and 3x350 MW respectively, or a total of 1,200 MW worth US$1.02 billion.

The tender of these projects is to be repeated because when they were put on tender in 2009 there was only one firm taking part in it.

The government has decided 93 locations for the construction of the second 10,000 MW power projects with a total designed capacity of 10,153 MW.

Of the 10,153 MW, 5,118 MW will be built by PLN in 21 locations and 5,035 MW by independent power producers in 72 locations.
