IMF head Strauss-Kahn accused of 2002 sex assault

PARIS (AP) -- A lawyer for a 31-year-old novelist says she plans to file a criminal complaint accusing International Monetary Fund chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn of sexually assaulting her nine years ago.

A political rival also accuses Strauss-Kahn of a long-term pattern of sexual misconduct. The accusations are shocking France and fueling a reexamination of Strauss-Kahn's reputation as a womanizer.

Tristane Banon's attorney says that after the 2002 attack she was dissuaded from filing charges by her mother, a regional councilor in Strauss-Kahn's Socialist party.

Strauss-Kahn faces charges of attempted rape and criminal sexual contact after a hotel maid accused him of a weekend attack in New York.

Lawyer David Koubbi tells RTL radio that Banon now "knows she'll be taken seriously."
