TUNIS, Tunisia (AP) -- A Tunisian security official says that Libya's oil minister has defected and fled to Tunisia.
The official said Tuesday that Shukri Ghanem, the head of the national oil company and Libya's oil minister, crossed into Tunisia by road on Monday and defected. The official, based in the border region, was not authorized to speak to the media.
Ghanem is one of the highest profile Libyan officials to defect amid fighting between Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi's forces and rebels backed up by a NATO-led campaign of airstrikes.
