The government has allocated Rp 10 trillion (US$ 1.17 billion) to revamp tens of thousands of state elementary schools set up in the 1970s through presidential instruction (Inpres).
“The funds will be used to repair old Inpres schools, most of which are in a state of disrepair,” said Coordinating People’s Welfare Minister Agung Laksono on Monday as quoted by kompas.com.
He said the repairs were necessary to make students comfortable while I class.
Agung said it was hoped that the repair work could help the government meet the Millennium Development Goals, particularly in providing nine years of basic education for all.
