Yamaha pulls out of World Superbike Championship - P&H Motorcycles

There will be no riders wearing factory Yamaha motorcycle clothing in the World Superbike Championship (WSBK) next season.

The Japanese manufacturer has announced that it is pulling out of the WSBK at the end of the current campaign, to instead focus resources on "improving customer satisfaction".

It is something of a surprise that Yamaha has decided to pull out, considering riders Marco Melandri and Eugene Laverty are currently third and fourth in the championship respectively.

The company has also recently awarded Melandri a new contract for 2012, so it remains to be seen exactly what the Italian will be racing on next season.

A statement from the firm said: "YME would like to express their sincere thanks and appreciation for the total commitment, support, and passion shown by the extremely professional and dedicated riders and team members both past and present."

Yamaha is currently the reigning MotoGP manufacturer's champion, although it trails Honda this season.
