MILD QUAKES HIT SOUTHERN MINDANAO

Jakarta Forum - Cotabato City, Jan. 31. A mild earthquake hit southern Mindanao early Sunday, the second in 48 hours, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

No one was reported injured or property damaged in the 4.8 magnitude tremor that occurred at 7:26 a.m..

Phivolcs monitored the center of the earthquake at 106 kilometers south-east of Gen. Santos City with a deep of 196 kilometers.

Phivolc`s seismograph recorded an intensity 1 quake in Gen. Santos City and Saranggani province.

On Saturday afternoon, a mild quake also hit eastern Zamboanga peninsula but no reported casualties or damages.

Amerkhan Eto, seismologist in Cotabato City, said the tremors were not felt in the city.
