FISHERY PRODUCTION OF MAMUJU 9,292 TONS PER YEAR

Jakarta Forum - Mamuju, Fish production of Mamuju regency, West Sulawesi, which has a coastline of 275 kilometers reached 9,292 tons per year with a potential raise of 69.03 pct.

This was stated by head of the Mamuju Fishery and Marine Affairs Agency A.M.Tahir here Friday.

"I believe that the increase in the fish production of the fishermen in Mamuju was also thanks to the various programs applied by the local fishermen on raising their production capacity," he said.

Not only that, he said he has also succeeded to develop seaweed cultivation which has a very high economic value.

"The development of seaweed in Mamuju had reached a maximum, because the results had contributed a great deal to the fishermen in improving their life," he added.

He said that the potential of the seaweed in Mamuju waters covering 1,235 hectares, had produced 2,100 tons of the commodity each year, with only 197,08 ha of the land exploited," he said.
