Indonesia to Jaddah, Saudi Arabia, 35 flights per week

Jakarta Forum - Jakarta, Indonesia has decided to raise the number of flights from the country to Saudi Arabia from 21 to 35 per week to anticipate rising demands.

"We have asked for raising them from 21 to 35 per week" the director general of air transportation, Herry Bhakti S Gumay, said here on Friday.

He said the regulator had always facilitated operators who wish to increase flights abroad including to Jeddah.

"The regulators have divided total permits among several operators including Lion Air for five flights per week, Garuda 11 and Batavia three flights a week," he said.

He said only three of total airliners interested in international flights had been given the permit.

Herry said international routes particularly to the Middle East were just growing in line with increasing flights from the region to Indonesia.

"If they fly here, Indonesian airliners could also fly there. This is what is called reciprocal," he said.

Some airliners from the Middle East that have flown to Indonesia are Qatar Airways, Etihad Airways and others from Dubai or Abu Dhabi.
